Summary:

Abigail Dressler is a demon hunter by profession. Recent events led her to a difficult crossroad: Her father is missing, taken by a demon, and although she wants nothing more than to save him, doing so might cost her her career and maybe her life. She unwillingly teams up with former Theology student, Haatim, in order to find her father and hopefully save her career. Together they embark on a journey that turns out be enlightening – and deadly.

Review:

Raven’s Peak is the first book of Lincoln Cole’s trilogy, World on Fire. It addresses an age-old theme – good vs evil. It does so, however, in an extremely engaging way. Cole keeps you captivated by a well thought out narrative as well as relatable characters. Lovers of Theology and Demonology will resonate particularly with this fantasy world that brings the fight between good and evil to life in an action-packed story.

It was tough to find anything that I disliked in Raven’s Peak. From the start, the author had my full attention and I never felt myself wishing that the story would progress faster. Cole introduces the right amount of characters in just enough storylines to keep you reading, but not feel overwhelmed. His style of writing is also very descriptive, yet easy to get used to and easily understood. Most of all, I appreciated the references to certain factuality of Theology and Demonology, such as the inclusion of the demon, Belphegor.

Although this might not be the best book I have ever read, I gave it a perfect score for the reasons to follow. Firstly, it is an exceptionally well-written book. Secondly, it is an exciting narrative with characters to match. Thirdly, it keeps you reading, keeps you wanting more. Last but not least, it is clear that the author has sufficient knowledge on the subject matter of the book - Theology and Demonology - which I highly respect and almost even require when reading a book (albeit fiction) on any revered topic.

Apart from Theology enthusiasts, I can recommend this book to any fiction lover, specifically those that lean towards the horror and thriller genres. If you are religious and the topic of demon possession is a sensitive or taboo one, I recommend you steer clear of this book. Other than that, clear your weekend, because you will not be able to put it down once you’ve started. Happy reading!
