In Twisted but True, Darren Burch shared stories of his law enforcement days in Phoenix Arizona. I rated this book 4 out of 4 stars - fans of police procedurals and biographies will enjoy snapshots (35 chapters) of a police officer's life in action. Squeamish readers with great imagination should stay clear.

An excellent read with no grammatical or typo errors showcasing great flow of stories with wonderful prose of words. Darren's childhood stories and circumstances defined his character and put him in good stead in his career choice.

It was enjoyable to read the 'after' or 'Twist' of his shared anecdotes - sometimes macabre, sometimes heartwrenching, most times humorous. His anecdotes ranged through different stages of his career, from his rookie years to squad years to (later on) leadership years.

Darren's extensive vocabulary in describing a specific body part in a particularly 'twisted' tale was especially entertaining. Even though the book concentrated on work-related stories, I appreciated the snippets of family stories.

This book is well written, well edited and down to earth. I would have liked to read his thoughts/stories on police brutality during his years (were there any progress?). Most of all, his grief in tragedies makes the book honest and open.

Well-written review!
I enjoyed the author's writing style, and his humor, when recounting the calls he had responded to.
