Pancake Money is a book written by Finn Bell. It is an expository book as well as a thriller that gives us an insight on the lives of detectives, how they get information and the pains it takes them to get it. It is also about murders, domestic violence, alcoholism and the pains it brings.

Bobby and Pollo were detectives trying to unravel the deaths of people in the city of Dunedin. As they were making investigations, they found out that more people they have been gruesomely murdered than they know of including priests. Bobby loves living a simple and honest life with his family whom he loves so much but he doesn't always have the time and Pollo did not have a happy childhood and hopes to have it as an adult but his death was tragic and he wasn't able to get it.

I like how the book explains the feelings of pains, paints the pictures of murders and the love for family and tribe as in the case of Bobby and the Ngai Tuhoe tribe who did all evil but protects their tribe. I did not like the way Pollo died, his life was unfilled and his death tragic. Eva's illness was also a sad one.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 because of the diction was great, the roles each character played was very interesting and captivating. It exposes us to the after effect of domestic violence and alcoholism also the quest for money and power. The murders was properly explained which made me felt as if I was at the scenes with Bobby and Pollo.

In conclusion, this book is full of suspense and thrills. Mrs Bowlby's teaching about pains is also very informative. I encourage people who love suspense and thrillers to read this very interesting books. I will read it again.
