The Embalmer: A Steve Jobz Thriller by Vincent Zandri is an exciting murder mystery thriller that will leave you wondering what’s going to happen next until the very end.

After an unfortunate shooting incident, former Albany police officer Steve Jobz now works for the Unemployment Insurance Fraud Investigations Agency. A series of grisly murders, where the victims are found embalmed alive, causes Detective Miller to seek out Jobz’s help with the case. Together, Jobz and Miller work to discover the Mortician Murderer before he finds more victims to preserve in such a tortuous but life-like death.

I, unfortunately, did not enjoy this book as much as I was hoping I would. It was relatively well written however, being classified as a thriller, I found only the last quarter of the book to be truly nail biting. The characters seemed to be mostly the same. It felt like they all had sarcastic and sardonic personalities. Despite being similar in nature, the main characters were pretty likable. The concept was quite interesting, and I liked reading a new murder mystery without the clichés.

Another problem I had with this book was the explicit content. It would be beneficial for readers to be informed of this kind of content beforehand. The sexual encounters were unnecessarily graphic and uncomfortable. There were swear words littered throughout as well. When characters seem to only be able to use the “F” word to express themselves, it feels very sloppy. The overview of this book stated that it was a novel that included action, adventure, and romance. There was plenty of action and adventure, but there was no romance; unless the author considers an exchange of phone numbers and the murderer’s blatant sexual assault on his victims romance.

I give The Embalmer: A Steve Jobz Thriller by Vincent Zandri 3 out of 4 stars. I could have given this book two stars because of the previously mentioned issues. I, however, actually really liked the idea of the story-line. I thought the murders were creative, horrifying, and not something I’ve read before. I understand and respect the fact that the author has every right to write whatever he feels like; but if some of the content had been edited, I would have readily given it four stars. I would recommend this book to adults looking for an interesting and intense murder mystery novel.
