The Girl Who Knew DaVinci by Belle Ami

This story is a tale of the past and the present. It involves a female art historian interning at an art museum. She is having a difficult time adjusting to the internship because of the museum curator Scordato. He seems to be more concerned with her as an object of his desires than an aspiring intern. But Angela has a secret and Scordato wants to know what her secret may reveal regarding a missing Leonardo DaVinci painting that is over 500 years old. Although Angela is even unsure of her secret and how valuable it may be. She does know that things have been strange lately and she has visions….

Add in Alex, an art thief detective, who discovers Angela in the museum one day in a trance at a painting and you have a romantical mystery thriller of sorts. Their two lives mesh in such a way that is more than what appears to be just a chance meeting in a museum. Alex is a suave, worldly, and handsome guy and Angela is a damsel in distress…so to speak. Many twists and turns lie ahead for the two of them. This does make for a very interesting read.

I did enjoy the book. It does really have some good depth and art history references especially regarding DaVinci. A large portion of the book takes place in Italy and there is some Italian language…which has been used quite eloquently by the author.

There is much romance to be had with some steamy chapters. With that said I will now grace you with the part of the book that I did not like. When Angela and Alex first meet it seems too quick. No chemistry, no real description of why they may want to be together it all just seems kind of rushed to me. Other characters in the storyline that are from the past (as the book goes back and forth through the past of Davinci time and present time) are very interesting and believable. Their descriptions are great and so is their storyline.

I’d give this book 3 out of 4 stars. It would have been a 4 If the two main characters didn’t get off to such a rushed start for me. The author has a bright future and really seems to know how to draw the reader in and keep them interested. Overall a good read!
