Book Review of ‘THE MYSTERY OF FLIGHT 2222’
There is a saying that you can’t tell a book by its cover. ‘THE MYSTERY OF FLIGHT 2222’ by Thomas Naviaser reflects the same adage.
The author narrates a story about two strangers while seated together on a long distance air flight, playing a game by choosing passengers and proceeded to guess their names, age, occupation, marital status, and personality. He continued the story and tell how their flight crashed into sea and their eventual survival.
No doubt, it is a thriller. It definitely gives reader heightened feelings of suspense, excitement, surprise, anticipation, anxiety and a bit of philosophy at the end. I do not know under which genre this book can be classified as the book contains thrill and moral. The introduction of characters into the story realistically made and helps in unfolding the drama. The so called ‘game’ played by the main character Frank Mason may not draw enthusiastic response from the readers initially, but they will understand the whole idea behind the game after reading the epilogue. Seven characters came into play as a part of the ‘Game’ without knowing they were dragged by their destiny.
The news of rescue operation under taken either by Air USA or Government agencies for survivors in the accident that too when survivors floating on the sea for fifty-two long days is a major flaw in the story. The reactions from outside world including mental trauma by Mason’s wife are also missing in the plot. Keeping in view of Initial characterization of Helen, her behavior after the accident appears to be genuine whereas Frank Mason’s adventurism when compared to his profession as stock analyst not match at all. Author has succeeded in keeping the pace of the narrative by introducing cannibalism , shark attack and finally climaxing with pirate ship.
According to ancient Indian wisdom, you reap what you sow. It means you eventually have to face up to the consequences of your actions. The Bible also say `Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.' (Galatians 6:7). At the end of the book, author successfully explained the sufferings of the characters which I can link to this proverbial saying.
The moral of the story is live a good life because if you don’t or won’t, you will end up regretting it and paying dearly for it. The characters in the story either through their past experiences or because they were left to their own devices earlier in life, have found themselves forever regretting and paying for the deeds of their pasts.
The book is well edited. I feel the story would have been still better had the observations made above incorporated in the book. In view of this i rate 3 out of 4 stars. This is a good book for young readers as well as for adults for thrill and moral. This is a special book and I wish readers would tread a correct path at least after reading this book.
