The Mystery of Flight 2222 begins with Frank Mason and Helen Hampton, total strangers. Frank and Helen are both on their way to Argentina, Frank, as a consultant for his business, and Helen, to attend the funeral of her ex-mother-in-law. They end up as passengers on Air USA Flight 2222, seated next to each other.
Frank always plays a game when traveling by airplane. Soon, he had Helen playing along, hoping to distract her attention from her fear of flying. The game entails picking seven passengers and then guess their names, occupation, marital status and personality. After crashing at sea, Frank and Helen manage to rescue themselves and seven other passengers. To their astonishment, the seven passengers rescued were the same they picked out in their game. Together they manage to launch the raft, and collect as much water and food from the plane as they possibly can.
From there the story follows their fight for survival in the middle of the ocean. They had to ration food, save rainwater, survive shark attacks, catch flying fish, and when finally rescued by pirates, it was not the end of their nightmare.
This book really had me turning the pages, and I was completely engrossed from start to finish. I enjoyed the fact that I never knew what was going to happen next, and it kept me guessing until the end. The one scene flows into the other effortlessly and, although the story starts slow, it progresses at such a rate that it never bores you. Furthermore, the author gives enough information on the characters to understand them, and you cannot help but become part of their lives while struggling to survive.
I must admit, the end of the story had me totally confused and shocked, but after reading the Epilogue I understood the end better. The Epilogue also explains the karma to which to author refers to in the beginning of the book.
As I said above, the story begins a bit tedious, and the days the survivors spend on the raft appears to run on everlastingly. Other than that, there is not much I did not like about this story. I did notice at some stage the font sizes differ, but I did not take this into account as I think it might be because of the download or computer and not formatting issues on the side of the author.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The book is extremely well written and in the end, the setting, plot, and characters worked well together to create a captivating and action-packed story. I would recommend this book to any action, mystery and suspense lover, older than 16, because some of the scenes might be a bit upsetting to younger readers.
