I recently read Twisted Threads by Kaylin McaFarren. This book had its fair share of bumps, but also had its highlights. The author did a fabulous job keeping the book interesting. It was not your typical plot. Although the vocabulary was weak is some areas of the book. I also felt that details were also very lacking throughout. I would rate Twisted Threads a 2 out of 4. Here are my reasons as to why.

The prolouge was not very exciting or enticing. It did not make me at all curious or interested in what was going to happen. And to add on to that, I could not pick up on what was happening. In my opinion, it could use more of a cliffhanger at the end of the prologue.

Then in chapter one a more simplistic vocabulary was in use compared to the prologue which had strong vocabulary. It was a short chapter, and quick to the point. There was very little description, for example Akira could have described what the pills she took looked like, the size, shape, or taste. Overall, chapter one was not much of an improvement from the prologue.

Chapter two did not clearer tell the reader when it was taking place. Is it occurring right after chapter one or has some time passed, it was difficult to tell. Then when new characters were introduced, the relationship between the main character, Akira, and the new character was unclear as well. I did not know if Misuki was her boss, her comrade,or someone. It was unclear until further reading. But it made understanding their conversation difficult until this information was given later in the chapter. Dialogue between Akira and Yuki Ota was weak and plain. At first I thought Mitsui was a female, but in actuality he is a male. What chapter two did pick back up on was the vocabulary. We also begin to see glimpses of character development. And at the end of the chapter, there is a lot of suspension. This chapter was somewhat of an improvement from chapter one and the prologue.

The book continues in this manner throughout the entire book, with strong vocabulary in one chapter then the next struggling to make a high school level. Overall, I like the book from a thrill level. But from a grammar and detail prospective, it could have been better. It needed more details and a stronger vocabulary throughout the entire book. That is why I would rate Twisted Threads by Kaylin McFarren a 2 out of 4.
