All men are mortal and this is a fact that we must accept and move on with. Now assuming you have been told that you will die soon, what would you do? Would you ask for forgiveness from people you had wronged during your days on the surface of this planet? Would you prefer to kill other people because you know you are soon going to your grave? Or would you opt to give your earthly belongings to charity organisations? Well, the answer lies with you. Van Fleisher uses his novel, Final Notice, to tell us what people are capable of doing when trapped in such a situation.

Now in this story, Vijay Singh, invents a very powerful watch that is capable of studying a person’s blood chemistry and even monitoring the fitness status of an individual. The watch thereafter sends out signals, “final notices” to its users telling them when they are likely to face death. The remaining days to die may be a maximum of thirty days.

Upon receiving the “final notices”, people behave differently. Some see it comfortable to have their legal affairs in proper order, others prefer to participate in charity activities while others become lethal and kill other people. The author tells us the stories of various people and how they react upon receiving these notifications. One situation that surprised me is when an old couple, Vince and Trude, is thinking of acquiring a gun to protect itself given its old age.

I liked the author’s firm stand on the issue of gun use and control in the United States of America. Van Fleisher appears to be left leaning since he is for controlled gun use in America.

Final Notice peers into the future and trys to explain to us how our world would be if people were free to use guns for self defence. I could see a very dark cloud on the horizon of our world if the situations in this story were to happen in real life. Our world could be in ruins. Imagine seeing people who should be our role models behaving badly. Just create an image of senior citizens shooting other people before succumbing to death just because they have received the notifications.

This is a great sci-fi and a political thriller that will interest you. The author introduces the characters before moving ahead to develop them into strong characters that are likable. I would recommend this book to funs of politics. People who want to read on gun use and gun control can also grab this book. Lovers of sci-fi, you can also read this. I found no major issues with Final Notice and so I baptised it with my 4 out of 4 stars.

I like your style of review. How you introduce the review sets the stage of what the gist of the book is. From there, you adequately capture how the powerful watch and it's capabilities of issuing final notices to its wearers affects everyone involved. And I agree, it's a pretty sorry state to see elderly people shooting around just because they have a few more days left to live. Good work.

This sounds like a very unique idea. I think this book would be very thought-provoking. Your review alone makes me wonder what I would do if I received my own "final notice".
Great review, thanks!
