Final Notice is a story set in our modern world. Vijay Patel, a young doctor, has invented a new health/ sports watch to monitor the blood of the person who wears it. This new technology has the ability to predict the wearer's death issuing a final notice up to 30 days before the event. Some people may put their affairs in order; some might try to enjoy life to its fullest before dying.

Unfortunately, some might take the chance to kill and commit revenge. This, combined with the NRA's push for softer gun laws, and the increase of hate crimes across the nation, is the central conflict the characters must face. Is the final notice feature to blame for the new crimes committed by the elderly or is it the social problems that surround us?

The author digs on the issues we face today to bring us this marvelous story. Fleisher describes for us the feelings of loneliness and uselessness our elderly face every day. He makes us reflect on their vulnerability by putting us in their shoes. The elderly couple, Vince and Trudi, are the very relatable characters. Through them, the reader can experience the injustice of racism, media manipulation, and the anxiety of impending death. In fact, all the characters are well developed. Even the minor characters that just appear in one chapter have insightful backgrounds.

The thing I liked the most, is the fast-paced nature of the book. I must confess it slows down a little in the middle, but it picks up again after a few chapters. The author easily tells the story while intertwining it with current political affairs. It makes us think about the direction our world is taking and our obligation to make a change. However, I was troubled a bit by one of the author's statement. At one point the book mentions white people have never seen or felt police intimidation. I found this statement a bit racist. I'm pretty sure some white people have gone through this ordeal.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Fleisher has created a great work. It's very original and well executed. In terms of editing, I couldn't find any error. The author certainly knows his way around words. I enjoyed his writing style. I'm definitely looking forward to more of his work. This book does have a very far-left political view. Because of this, I doubt people with far-right political views might enjoy it. I do encourage everyone to give it a try, though. You will find it's nearly impossible to put down.
