Review of Almost Mortal
In Washington, DC, a serial killer is on the loose. Nicknamed the Rosslyn Ripper, he’s eluding capture. Currently, the only thing in common is the bodies’ proximity to the D-Day monument. Deputy Public Defender Sam Young is keen to discover who the killer is and is intrigued when he’s contacted by Sister Camille Paradisi of Sam’s childhood parish, the Church of the Holy Angels. Father Andrada may have heard a confession from someone who could be who the police are looking for. She also hands Sam a handwritten journal by someone who may also be connected to the case.
These two incidents set Sam on a journey where he learns many things about himself and the killer. Can he help the police solve and catch the Rosslyn Rapper? Who is the author of the mysterious journal? And, how is he able to see into some people’s minds and see their thoughts? You’ll need to read Almost Mortal by Christopher Leibig to find out. Believe me, you’ll be glad you did.
Christopher Leibig is a master storyteller, and I was captivated from the prologue. As the twists and surprises kept coming, I kept being blown away by the incredible plot. The shock ending will please and most likely satisfy every reader.
There’s a little bit of medical jargon in the book. Personally, I loved the mini DNA lesson the medical examiner gave Sam, I feel much more educated after reading it. As DNA discussions continued throughout the story, I was grateful for the earlier lesson.
Almost Mortal is impeccably edited; I spotted zero spelling or grammatical errors. There is nothing for me to fault about this book; it scores an easy 5 out of 5 stars from me. The book will suit thriller readers with a fondness for serial killers as well as those who like to solve mysteries related to a person’s past and their current abilities.

The author of the journal is a huge shock, that alone is worth reading the book for. Thanks for reading my review.Victor Nwabuisi wrote: ↑18 May 2025, 15:10 I’m already curious about who wrote the journal and more importantly how Sam’s strange ability will play into cracking the case. Thank you for the great review.

I loved this one from cover to cover. Let me know if you figure out the journal's author before the end of the book.Gerry Steen wrote: ↑27 May 2025, 07:48 What is there not to like about this book? I think you'll be ok with this one Sarah, it's more fascinating than scary.Sarah Zain wrote: ↑29 May 2025, 13:05 The book seems as exciting as it is terrifying. Murder mysteries stories, although they are interesting to me, sometimes they scare me. However, your review has piqued my interest. I don't know about the medical aspect, but since it is related to the mystery, I think it will be waved well in the events.
Thank you for the recommendation Stephen.

Being able to mind-read is pretty useful when catching a killer. How will the mystery end? I'd better read the book to find out!Stephen Christopher 1 wrote: ↑01 May 2025, 01:23 [Following is a volunteer review of "Almost Mortal" by Christopher Leibig.]
