Tropical Scandal by David Myles Robinson, set in Honolulu, Hawaii, illustrates the exciting journey taken by criminal defense attorney Pancho McMartin and his best friend and private investigator, Drew Tulafono, as they try to decipher the facts of a puzzling case that fell into Pancho’s lap. The case of a drug dealer being charged with the murder of his grandmother, which seemed cut and dry based on the evidence, turned out to be anything but. Many secrets are uncovered, but nothing is making sense and time is running out. Will Pancho and Drew be able to unravel the mystery in time for the trial? Is Pancho's client actually guilty of murdering his grandmother?

One of the things I enjoyed about this book was the added love scenes between Pancho and his girlfriend, which gave it a realistic feel; working hard during the day and going home to relax with loved ones at the end of the day. I also liked that the courtroom scenes were described in some detail, giving me a feeling that I was there in person watching it unfold. The author was very descriptive of not just the characters but also the surroundings. I liked that as well, as I was able to picture it clearly even though I have never been there.

One thing that negatively impacted my reading experience was the fact that the much-anticipated courtroom scenes were not introduced earlier in the book. I had to read through so much before actually getting to the courtroom scenes in the final moments of the books.

I rate Tropical Scandal 4 out of 5 stars. The book was an enjoyable read. The author employed descriptive language, which effectively helped in making me feel as if I was one of the characters playing a part in the story and seeing everything clearly as it is happening. However, some courtroom scenes could’ve been placed earlier on in the book to make the earlier parts a bit more exciting for me. I found no errors in my reading, so it seems the book was professionally edited.

I would recommend this book to people who enjoy legal thrillers as well as people who like a realistic novel of a successful career-oriented person with a good work/life balance.
