Raven’s Peak, which is Book I of the World on Fire, is such a brilliant, fascinating work of fiction about the supernatural that I couldn’t stop reading.

A quick summary; Haatim’s life is turned upside down when he’s thrown into a new world where he learns that demons exist. He accompanies a Hunter named Abigail to fight off the demons, which want to claim the world as their own. In order to save a town and those who they love, they must have faith to survive.

The story was beautifully descriptive, and the prose flowed fluidly. Lincoln Cole created such realistic and vivid characters that I loved them all, even the bad guys. Almost every character has a purpose in this story, which made it easy to understand them and their motives. I love that romance isn’t a main genre as well, the two main characters had a sole purpose and didn’t let other emotions get in the way. And finally, we get an awesome female lead that does most of the heroic work while still being feminine. I also enjoyed reading the action and gore, Cole’s writing really brought the story to life and it was easy to imagine. The interactions the characters have was also greatly done. The dialogue portrayed just how characters got along with each other so that we understood the relationships. What I liked the most, though, was the interactions between Haatim and Abigail. It felt very realistic and honestly, I just love how well they work together.

There were just a few things that I personally didn’t like so much in the story. I felt like it was a little too fast-paced. Which in certain ways it did fit well with the plot, but most of the time I felt like things were happening a little fast. I felt like there wasn’t enough time for things to settle in because many things would happen at once. Also, with the story being fast-paced, there was some characters that we didn’t get to know more of, I would’ve liked to have learned more. I also feel like some things could’ve been explained more because sometimes I found myself confused or lost, especially in the beginning. What I liked the least was the fast pacing of the story. I wish things could’ve slowed down a bit so that way the terror and bad situations the characters found themselves in could settle in more with us.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I didn’t give it a 2 because I really love the story, setting, plot, and characters. I was easily hooked into it. And I didn’t give it a 4 because it was too fast-paced for me, I would’ve liked for the events in the story to have taken a slower pace. I think any person who likes action packed fantasy stories about the supernatural would enjoy this reading. And to those that don’t like scary things, yeah, they should maybe stay away from this book.
