For me, I would give Diamonds and Pearls 4 out of 5 stars. The book was a very easy read and a page-turner from the very first chapter. The story takes you from Massachusetts to Venezuela, Rhode Island to Afghanistan. I like the way the author starts in the present day and yet takes you back to earlier times in order to give you back round details, then leads you down a different path, kept it very interesting. The intersection of the lives of the characters was very intriguing and kept the storyline absorbing.

The characters are very relatable, connecting family and friendships in a sort of sad, yet heartwarming way. You start out with a mystery, but as you go, the depth of the story takes you to an alternate place where the plot twists make you look at things in a different light almost, from where you began.

Once you feel you have reached the summit of one situation, it then leads you to
another twist and turn you were not expecting, leading you down a whole other
avenue, keeping you on your toes to the point you don't want to put the book
down because you want to know what will happen next.

There is a saying, "It's a small world" and this storyline certainly reminds you of that
in a big way. Also, creating a subtle reminder to never judge too quickly as not everything
is as it may seem at first glance. There is more beneath the surface than meets the eye.
The theme of the book itself and the police work was just the tip of the iceberg of what it really
lends itself to in the end. I felt this book had intrigue, romance, suspense, warmth
and wrapped it all up beautifully for us in the end, tugging at your heartstrings.

There was no profanity in this book and the romantic scenarios were very light in detail. The reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is the author could have made it a little harder to figure out the initial mystery to add a little more suspense to the plot, but I don't feel that it at all took away from how much I enjoyed reading this book. All in all, I'd love to read more from this author in the future!
