When US Deputy Marshal and CIA Agent Tim Hall and his wife, FBI Special Agent Mary Ann of Washington, DC, left home one Saturday morning to run errands, they had no idea how much would change for them. On their last stop at their local pharmacy, they interrupted a robbery in progress which led them on a wild adventure to San Francisco where, together, they led an investigation into former CIA Agent Bernard Haskell that created more questions as they were looking for answers. Butting heads over investigation tactics, working through the intricacies of working with a romantic partner and not knowing who to trust brings the reader on a suspenseful journey with Tim and Mary Ann Hall filled with action, romance, and thrill in the novel The Decoys: A Tim and Mary Ann Mystery by Jeffrey Mechling.

I was particularly pleased that the author took his time to develop the storyline as well as the characters in the novel. While the novel is a work of fiction, the descriptive language employed by the author made me feel as if it was unfolding before my eyes and I was a part of it somehow. I liked the added sexual scenes, which added to the novel’s enticement, making me turn every page with renewed excitement, wanting to see what would unfold next. There was nothing in the book that negatively affected my reading experience.

I rate The Decoys by Jeffrey Mechling 5 out of 5 stars. It was a well-written novel with just the right amount of intrigue, romance, suspense and action. It was not predictable, but at the same time the plot went in a direction that, while not predicted, was a pleasant twist. The Decoys seemed to have been professionally edited, as I found no errors in my reading.

I recommend this novel to adults who desire some romance mixed into their action thriller novels.
