Lionel’s Law is a novel by Don Bennett. It is the story of Lionel Watts, a young lawyer who gets his life changed by a letter from the unknown. The letter says it holds information that is damaging and wants Lionel to be part of revealing it. When Lionel learns about this from the letter promising an exciting case, he says yes to meeting the mysterious writer of the letter, Gordon Metcalf. But this meeting promoted events that engaged Lionel and took him into a world of high risk, affection, and turns.

The story takes an even more dramatic turn when Lionel finds himself affiliated with the Merci family, a crime syndicate. He ends up as the counsel for Stella Inverness, a wife of a governor who stands accused of killing her husband. In order to solve this case, Lionel discovers some information that connects Stella to the Mercis and subsequent danger as well as attacks on him. From a safe life with no violence, Lionel finds himself in gunfire, kidnapping, and a desperate struggle to save himself and his entourage.

For me, it was quite a pleasure to read this book. The book can be best described as a crime, detective, legal, and romantic novel all at once. Though the writer brilliantly interweaves all these genres of writing, the book is full of action and adventure. It turns the tale into a type of whodunit, switching the audience back and forth, and within Lionel, the main character, one can easily sympathise.

There is not a single thing that I dislike about this book. It is remarkable to note that there is no mistake, no spelling mistake at all, which is a sure indication of quality editing that has been done to the book.I give this book 5 out of 5 stars for being an engaging, fast-paced, crime-romantic, legal novel. The author's skilful blend of these genres creates a fast-paced and engaging story. The book keeps the reader guessing with unexpected twists and turns. I would recommend this book to readers who are interested in crime thrillers.
