I just finished reading the book Pulse: Book one and I rated it 3 out of five. First, I’m going to talk about the good points in the book. I really like the topic in it and the critics. The author singles out the dangers and consequences on the environment made by the big companies. They try to show us how the earth is going to be, for example: most of the population living in atrocious conditions, only the richest people have enough to live on, there aren’t any animals on earth anymore… The author is telling us that we must change our way of living, especially the big companies, in order to protect the planet.
Then what I really liked is that there isn’t just one main character and his point of view but many others with their own life and problems which adds a different understanding of the story. However, it is also puzzling because there are too many characters and sometimes I was lost between them. And also because of the large number, they seem superficial. What I mean is that we only know the bare minimum and I wasn’t really attached to any of them.
Moreover, the author really knows how to write a story, we can see that through the writing. It’s easy to understand, they go straight to the point and don’t write to say nothing. But sometimes the pace is too fast. For example, a thing is going on and we don’t have time to process it that we're already moving on. The scenes of intrigue, gore and suspense are really well written. We always want more.
However, there were also minor things I didn't like so much. I already explained about the large numbers of characters and sometime the fast pace, but the order of events is disturbing, especially at the beginning. It may be that after reading one chapter, the next takes place two days before, and the one after takes place on the morning of the first chapter. So at the end of the events we were a bit lost.
Furthermore, the form of the dialogue is weird. It is not like usual with quotation marks, it’s just the name of the character and two dots. It’s not that bad but I think it would be better and seem more professional if it is like usual.
And finally, I didn’t find that much of mistakes. Yes, there were some, but it was not horrendous or something like that.
The story is still very good and at the end of this volume you want to read the next and learn more about some characters and events.
