Review of Untouchable
Untouchable by Charles Alexander is the first book of the Annie Steele novel series by the author. I have read the previous books. I did like them, apart from a few issues. So , after reading all of them, I have come to the very first book of the series, where we explore the story behind the supercop Annie Steele. The story starts with a robbery of nuclear weapons and jumps to the very accident where the protagonist is attacked along with her partner during the transit of chemical waste from a nearby hospital. What happens next is what sets the story at its pace.
Mr. Whittaker is luckily nearby and rescues Annie, but she herself isn’t sure how she survived. How did she survive a bullet shot to the head? How will she escape the criminals who are determined to kill her? She discovers so many changes in her body after the accident. How was she not writhing in pain?
Having read the other novels of the series, I am not surprised at the breathtaking pace with which the plot is set and taken forward. As expected, there are a lot of well-detailed, intense, action-packed scenes with vivid descriptions. You will see the scene play out right in front of your eyes. The author is very much appreciated for the visual spectacle the story provides in every turn.
There are parallel events running in the story that are very much interlinked, and it will become clear as the story progresses. There is science fiction involved in making our protagonist a superhero in the process. The suspense is till the last word of the book. There are new dangers and betrayals that go above and beyond the ones already experienced and set the tone for the next book in the series. Even though this is a part of a series, the story is, on its own, well done and can be considered an individual plot even without going through the other books in the series.
While I have appreciated the relationship between Bobby and Annie in the other novels, I felt the whole thing was done very quickly. He gets attached very quickly. She is comfortable within no time, which baffled me, to be honest. I expected a long, drawn-out relation plot. This is a subjective opinion, so other readers may like the relationship background in the novel. There are a lot of references to sex, and the usage of profane words can make a few readers uncomfortable, so one should proceed with caution. Unfortunately, I encountered a lot of errors, which is a little annoying, but it is not a huge issue. I otherwise do not have any complaints about the novel.
Untouchable by Charles Alexander is definitely a must-read for thriller lovers who love plots with a lot of tension, twists, and turns. Keeping in mind the number of errors, I am rating the novel 4 out of 5 stars for unprofessional editing. I highly recommend the book and also encourage you to read the other books in the series. It is a good one.
