Review of The Middle Reaches (Episodes 1-8)
"The Middle Reaches (episodes 1-8)" by L. Andrew Cooper is a story about 5 friends, Nick, Ambrose, Celia, Leslie, and Pedro, who were teenage friends, but later everyone went in a different direction. The 5 friends reunite later at Nick's place for a little get-together where each of them shares about their dreams. They all find similarities in their dreams about their old friend Sheldon, who disappeared during their teenage years. The circumstances under which Sheldon disappeared were unclear, and no one knew if he had died or disappeared because only Sheldon's bloodstained clothes were found but not his body.
All share a dream of entering a dark, scary place called the middle reaches, where they hear Sheldon's voice calling and see a shadow man. Nick specifically has a clearer recollection of his dream. Realizing they all share the same dream about the middle reaches, they decide to go for a little picnic at the place with the hope of uncovering what happened to Sheldon. Did they find out what happened to Sheldon? Was there a connection between Sheldon and the previous kid's disappearances? Get a copy and find out.
"The Middle Reaches" is a book broken down into many episodes. Reading the first 8 episodes, I enjoyed it. The suspense keeps you yearning to read more episodes. The storyline was so well developed that it kept me so hooked that I lost track of time. The blend of horror and dark fantasy makes the book more interesting. I enjoyed the dialogue between the characters; their friendship was solid and something to appreciate.
My favorite character was Nick; his courage to explore the scary place is commendable; he was like a leader to his friends. I found nothing to dislike about the book. It was free of grammatical errors and well-edited. I loved how the events were vividly described, creating clear mental images in readers' minds. I give the book a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars because of the reasons I stated above.
"The Middle Reaches" is a perfect read for adult readers who love books with highly sexual and erotic content. The book contains explicit sexual content that is vividly described and might be off-putting for some readers. The book also contains many instances of severe profanity. I recommend it to adult readers who enjoy horror and dark fantasy as well as those comfortable reading books with explicit sexual content and severe profanity.
