Akira Sato is not a sweet innocent girl. She is not Takashi’s daughter either. She is a geisha and a well trained assassin and this time she is on her last mission. She has been ordered to take out the killer of Matsui’s sister; the Lyons’ couple being the main suspect. To avoid killing an innocent person Akira must identify whether Paul or Sarah Lyons is the murderer and their nephew Devon Lyons might just be the person to help her with that. She is assured to be free of her Yazuka boss; Matsui, if her mission ends successfully. Unfortunately for Akira the line between duty and love blurs as she seduces the information out of Devon. Will she survive the cruise with her heart and soul intact?

Kaylin McFarren’s Twisted Threads is a fast paced thriller with just enough romance to set the plot flowing right along with the Pacific. It is an intriguing story which would have bordered to be more horrific had the author been more graphic on the death scenes. It sets the reader in a suspenseful mood that moves you to turn the page each time you finish one. With Sarah's psychological condition, her doctor who gives memory jars and the animosity between Paul and the doctor the cruise gets more interesting by the second. Not forgetting the quite detailed sex scenes that just add to the adrenaline rush.

I really love the mystery that shrouds the killer since the evidence is always shifting the suspicion to another. Kaylin somehow manages to make the murderer even more mysterious as the story goes on. With more deaths than one expects to observe on a ship I find the fear greatly understated for the travelers on the cruise. The author somehow fails to set the appropriate atmosphere for the characters and how they receive the news of death of several other travelers.

Akira Sato is neither the antagonist nor the protagonist of this story. She is a victim of circumstances, raised as a wolf but with the heart of a sheep. As for Devon he is neither alpha male nor is he a weakling. Like every fairy tale prince he is affectionate, understanding and not the least bit suspecting of his newly acquired lover.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. This is mainly because I believe there was more to the plot than the author has given. The characters may be well developed but the story having been written from a third point of view the reader does not really get a proper insight of how the characters are and what they think about.

I recommend this book to anybody with a knack for mysteries. The book is definitely PG therefore any kid below 15 should not be reading this book. For anybody who avoids sex scenes in their books then this might not be your book even though it is worth the read.

The story of Akira Sato is very intriguing. The plot is very thick and mysterious. Fan of this genre would enjoy it a lot. You have comprehend the who story very well. Thanks for this nice review.

I’m a little bit picky when it comes to books that have Japanese themes to them—due to the fact that they tend to draw a lot on unhelpful stereotypes—so I’m a bit apprehensive about this. Your description of the characters has me curious, though, as I love a good antihero. Thanks for your review!

Maybe this would be a good turnover for you about books with Japanese themes. It may be true that some are stereotypical but they also give new insights into other people's cultures. I would recommend you try reading this book and see if you would change your mind. Thanks for commenting.

It's due to the fact that I live in Japan and have lived here for a while now that I'm a little sensitive about Japanese stereotypes, but I agree that there are some aspects of the culture that I'm unaware of that might be shown through these books. Likewise, I'm always up for a book changing my mind about a genre or theme.

This story seems to involve assassination, killings, and captivity. The author appears to twist the tale with the complexity of misguided motives. Interesting review.
