VETERANS DAY is a murder mystery by J. J. Jorgens, or was it a suicide? The story takes place within the Washington DC Metropolitan Area and Mary Jane Morris makes it her mission to find out exactly what happened. After receiving a strange call from her ex-partner, Mary Jane finds him dead in his office. The police write it off as a suicide, but Mary Jane finds that a hard pill to swallow. Mary Jane begins her own private investigation which leads her into the shady world of power and greed.

The author uses this story to uncover corrupt scams where our veterans are cheated out of their benefits. I applauded Mary Jane’s dry sense of humor as she dug deeper into the muddy waters of this crime. It’s just a matter of time before she realized she’s getting too close for their comfort each time her life is threatened.

Mary Jane journey takes the reader throughout our nation’s Capital to tour some historical sites along the way. She also introduces you to her closest friends, so you can feel their support as she gets swallowed up in the despair that tries to suck her down. Her loyalty to her ex-partner and to her veteran friends pushes her on to never give up, no matter the obstacles thrown in her path.

Mary Jane’s outlook on life could be grim while dealing with politicians who have money and power and abuse both for their own good. Yet, throughout this story, the language remains decent which is refreshing considering this story revolves around crime and politics.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. While this book had several typos, it didn’t take away my interest in reading it thru to the end. It was easy to read and I enjoyed how the story flowed consistently. It did not stop and start or chug along in a boring snag. Instead it kept me turning the pages. I found myself routing for the private investigator early on to push on and not give up when the odds stacked up against her time and again. Like real life, the bad guys seemed to have the upper hand in keeping a lid on their scheming plots to cheat Americans. I had to read on to the very end to see if they succeeded. If you enjoy a good mystery, you will enjoy this story.
