One of the most captivating thrillers by Edward Izzi is “Quando Dormo,” which goes through the interconnected worlds of medical morality, psychological distress, and criminal detective work. Dr. David Fazio, the lead character, is an obstetrician who suffers from severe nightmares at night that cause physical burns on his hands, making his already difficult life even more complicated. With the recent state’s abortion law clashing with his pro-life conviction, he is wrongly accused of being a serial arsonist behind many fires in abortion clinics, thus transforming the story into a horror movie. What happened to Dr. David Fazio at the end?

The novel distinguishes itself with its multifaceted approach, which incorporates elements of medical drama, psychological suspense, and crime investigation. The portrayal Izzi gives of Dr. Fazio’s inner conflict in terms of tormenting nightmares comes out as both enchanting and eerie, owing to how they become actual burns on his skin. There are many surprises in this thrilling narrative, and Detective Dennis Romanowski’s methodical investigations add a lot to the plot as well as characterization. There are very few books that have thought-provoking themes such as moral dilemmas or justice-seeking actions because most authors prefer simple plots.

The book has an interesting story that will keep you guessing until the end. This story pulls you in right away with believable characters and a storyline that entwines personal issues with wider societal problems. The author has done a good job of creating a truly engaging read that makes readers think deeply while also being entertained.

I enjoy everything about the book, especially in terms of how the author talks about Dr. David Fazio’s character, which is interesting and very intense within himself.

The main reason I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars is because of how the author has been able to combine three genres (examples are medical thriller, detective novel, and psychological mystery), all interwoven into one captivating story. The book is perfectly edited, and I found no dislike in it.

For lovers of psychological mystery, crime investigation, and medical ethics quandaries, I highly recommend the book to you.
