Veterans Day A Mary Jane Morris Mystery.
Mary Jane is a detective who lives in Washington DC with her roommate Sally and Sally’s son Jackson. She has a boyfriend named Lorenzo who is a doctor, loves to cook and is close to his family. Her mother died when she was six years old, so she was raised by her father so because of this she seems to have a tom boy kind of lifestyle. She seems like a no non-sense kind of person who takes her job seriously but always makes time for her friends and family when she had them. Although she is a detective now she was not always going to be one, a matter of fact she went to law school and even graduated from it. Mary Jane did not Want to become a detective until she went to hear a man named Davy speak and from that day on she was hooked, little did she know that later they would be best friends and partners.
Davy was a retired navy man and the kind of detective that could solve a case in a day when others took months. His life never used to be complicated he used to have a great job a wife and a daughter who adored him. Now he is divorced his daughter can’t stand him and he is jobless. What can happen to this man that made him hit rock bottom, that’s simple Alcohol. Not only was he dealing with this but now he is dead, a bullet to the head and no one knows why. Could it be the black mailing he has begun on the side? How about the new program to get the Veterans some health care and education? All of these seemed to be good leverage for someone. Living in a town with a corrupt mayor and a money talks housing developer does not help Mary Jane solve this case any faster.
This book takes you on a lot of twist and turns and will hold your interest if you like mysteries. I felt like I was right there in the book experiencing everything these characters were going through and my heart broke for them. The Death of her mother seemed to haunt her still and in a chapter, she referred her mother and father’s death as being ghost but the amount of times she mentioned this in the book seemed to be unnecessary. She had this problem a lot of things. Also, she would throw in point less facts in the middle of a sentence. For example, she was talking about how she went to law school then she said one eye was blue and one eye was green, what does that have to do with anything?
I would recommend this book to everyone who wants a good read and to people who just want to try something different. I was pleasantly surprised by this book and the way it ended. It was the first book I liked since I have joined. I will buy this book if I ever come across the opportunity to do so.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. The reason I took away a star was because of the random information and the pointless information.
