The Raven Conspiracy is an engaging read with a 3 out of 5 stars rating. This book is a perfect Summer Read set in a quaint, quirky beach town with loveable, unique characters. Although I could not personally relate to one character, I found each one intriguing and charming. The book was an easy, light read with humor packed throughout. The contrast between the straight-laced, by-the-book FBI agents and JP, the laid-back Deputy, allowed for introspection. I often found myself challenged in my viewpoint of which method worked best and how some combination of following the rules and taking risks could lead to the solution.

Overall, I enjoyed the plot and development of the characters but found the story lacking when discovering the suspect responsible for the string of crimes. It was certainly a twist, but I did not feel that the rest of the story lent well to the proposed motive for this individual terrorizing the town. Without giving away the climax, there is another section of the story that should have played a larger role in the book’s unfolding. I honestly anticipated that the reason for introducing a particular character and the trauma that happened to this individual would play a role in later revealing the individual’s involvement in the crimes. It seemed odd that it was unrelated and was a separate incident that didn’t play into the overall storyline. Additionally, the ending progressed too rapidly and left a desire for more details and tie-ins to the rest of the story.

The characters were the best part of this book. With improving the storyline and details, I would have rated the book higher. I could even see the benefit of this book being a series that focuses on different characters. If this were the case, the reader could continue learning about the characters in a more realistic manner that did not leave questions or feel rushed.
