Just Die is a thoroughly entertaining work of fiction. It chronicles the adventures of Jake Silver, a successful financial adviser, who wakes up in a hospital bed after suffering from a stroke to discover that he has the power to kill any living thing by pointing at them and saying the words, 'just die.'

Along with his fiancée, Beth Ann and ex pro footballer turned domestic hospital worker, Omar Carter, Jake must decide how to use his gift. It isn't long before his talent is noticed and he is presented with the opportunity to serve his country. However, not everyone is on Jake's side, and he finds that killing takes its toll.

Just Die is a fast paced, easy read. I raced through it in a couple of days and was left smiling at the end. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and it made me laugh. I appreciate that it was set in the real world with a twist, and I really liked the characters and their stories. I loved Jake and Beth Ann's relationship and the fact that he didn't keep any secrets from her, including her in his difficult decisions. I was also touched by the friendship that builds between Jake and Omar.

I did find a few typos and editing issues sporadically throughout the book, and at times the writing seemed a little sloppy and the dialogue, a little awkward but I was able to overlook these flaws and enjoy it for its entertainment value. I don't think Fleischauer intended his readers to think too hard or worry too much about the detail or the inconceivable result of Jake's stroke. He just wanted to write a book that would entertain. He succeeded. I have given Just Die 4 stars out of 5. It is not the most accomplished or impressive book I have ever read but if you want a fast paced thrill over a quiet weekend, this could be the book for you.
