The Freedom Building by Martin Kendall follows John, a rising architect who suddenly wakes up after an accident as the acclaimed designer of a famous building. The only catch is that he is unable to remember anything from the past three years, and the pressure mounts as he tries to step into his new role. This book had a very interesting premise, and it kept me hooked all the way through. I finished this book in two sittings because of how interesting it was.

John is a flawed, complex character. There are many problems in his life, some of which he brought on himself, and that makes him realistic and easy to connect with. Not only is he realistic, but so are his reactions to the situations he finds himself in. The stakes are believably high, and John acts accordingly. I very much enjoyed following his thought process and seeing how he developed from the beginning of the book to the end.

The author’s descriptive wording enhances the intrigue and suspense the reader feels while reading. It allowed me to appreciate the depth of the characters’ emotions and problems more because I got a lot of context for each situation. I could understand each character’s motivations for their actions, and that helped me appreciate the book more. The end of the book was the highlight for me. I didn’t expect it, which made it more enjoyable.

The standard of editing for this book impressed me. It stood out as professionally edited and formatted, enriching my reading experience.

One thing to keep in mind before reading is that The Freedom Building deals with a controversial topic: the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The main character is not directly involved with the conflict in the book, but events relating to the conflict drive the plot considerably. There are characters in the book that represent either side and characters who are neutral or remain silent. While the book itself does not seem disrespectful, there is one specific character who insults Palestinians, and he makes hateful comments towards Muslims.

Overall, The Freedom Building by Martin Kendall is a book filled with intrigue and suspense. I would rate it a 5 out of 5, and I would recommend it to those who enjoy genres dealing with psychology.
