Mark and Steve are brothers. Marian is Mark’s partner at the Boston Police Department. They have all been brought together to aid the FBI and CIA in bringing charges against Edison Benjamin, Mark and Steve’s father. Edison is a scientist who has been experimenting with genetic engineering but as a result of his work, hundreds of people have died and the city has nearly been blown up. Akambe is another of Edison’s sons and he is stuck with Sandra, Edison’s lover, trying to make Edison’s computer programs work. Edison is locked in a glass cell which is impossible to break out of but he keeps making references to “getting out”. Edison is known for his mind games and everyone is wary and on edge when they interact with him.

I was expecting this book to be along the lines of a sci-fi exploring the effects of genetic engineering, but that did not come through at all. The author drops you into events that have already begun with no backstory or context to work from. This is book 4 in a series so I was expecting there to be some summary of what had happened in the previous books, but having read the whole book I still have no idea what precipitated the events contained within.

There are a lot of characters in this story, too many to keep up with, but none of them were well developed. Again, some backstory would have been helpful in understanding who the characters are and what their role is in the story. I couldn’t find one that I could relate too. The whole story had a feeling of chaos. Moving from one scene to another felt very disjointed. Many times there was no transition at all and I would get halfway through a scene and realize that it was not what I thought it was. The descriptions of the surroundings were minimal and not enough to let me feel like I was in the scene. The whole story just felt chaotic in a way that was frustrating instead of thrilling.

Finally, the book did not appear to have been edited at all. There were so many typos and grammar mistakes that it was very hard to read at times. Often the sentence structure was so poor that I had to read it 2 or 3 times in order to understand what was going on. In the end, I really don’t know what this story was about. It felt very random and not well thought out.

I was very disappointed in this book from beginning to end. I was expecting thrills and conspiracies and what I got was random, confusing, and difficult to read. For these reasons, I am giving this book 1 out of 4 stars.

I'm sorry this one was so disappointing. I hate it when you come into the story in the middle. It's so confusing. Then with so many characters. I hope your next one is better.

What a shame. I understand how disappointed you must be, having to go through the whole book. Hope your next read won't be like that. You could also check out my review.
