“The House on Tyner” by Matthew O’Connell is an enthralling novel.

The story revolves around Jackson Taylor, who defies the warnings of his realtor friends and purchases the breathtakingly beautiful yet infamous house of Upper Tyner, where a murder-suicide occurred. Despite the fact that the house had changed hands multiple times in a few short years, Jackson felt an instant connection with it. The intensity of the narrative ramps up when Jackson begins experiencing strange phenomena inside the house. As the story progresses, the events become increasingly bizarre with each chapter. Will he follow the footsteps of the previous owners and flee, or will he become yet another victim of the house's dark past?

There are several positive aspects to the novel. Firstly, the plot is captivating. Within just a few chapters, I found myself completely engrossed. While it didn't quite deliver the bone-chilling horror I had anticipated, the mystery elements kept me thoroughly engaged. The author aptly described it as a ghost story wrapped in a mystery. Midway through the book, I began to speculate about the identity of the perpetrator behind Tyner's tragedy. However, the revelation was far more intense than I had imagined, making it one of the most intricate and satisfying storylines I have encountered.

The attention to detail in the book is commendable. Towards the end, the reasons behind the protagonist's former profession as a pitcher and his alcoholism became clear, adding depth to the narrative. Additionally, the book is exceptionally well-edited, with a smooth reading experience free of errors.

Honestly, there’s nothing to dislike about this book. My only regret is that it didn't quite meet my high expectations for the horror element I had anticipated. However, this is no reason to detract from its merits.

I highly recommend "The House on Tyner" to anyone who enjoys captivating stories with a touch of horror. However, it may not be suitable for younger readers due to its focus on violence and homicide, as well as its significant use of profanity.

In conclusion, I rate this novel 5 out of 5 stars.
