Soul Seeker, by Kaylin McFarren, is a paranormal thriller that explores an age-old concept of good vs evil and soulmates. The story starts with Benjamin Poe, a firefighter and a family man. However, all is not well with his family. He suspects that his son might be involved in setting fire at his work and killing some people. He often gets into arguments with his wife.

Meanwhile, a mysterious stranger enters the town and seems to know everything about Benjamin’s family affairs. He constantly taunts and troubles everyone he comes across. The second part of the story moves on to the afterlife and has demons battling angels. The author ties up all loose ends towards the end of the book, right after an all-out battle of good against evil.

I had a great time reading this book. The stories depicting life after death have always fascinated me. The author goes in-depth into the idea of ‘hell‘ and has created quite an imaginative world. Whether we believe in the existence of hell or not, we will certainly take a minute to think about what would happen if it were all real.

The story of Benjamin Poe had me hooked on page one. The author sensitively described Poe’s disturbed relationship with his wife and son. As a reader, I could sense the tension behind their interactions. I could sympathize with his wife as she struggled to understand who her son had become. The descriptions of the fighting scenes between demons and angels were simply mind-blowing. It felt like I was watching a movie. The author described every move and kick in great detail.

Honestly, there was nothing that I disliked about this book. It is apparent that professional editors went through the book as it flows smoothly. Since the book deals with demons, a bit of profanity is to be expected. It did not slow down the story or stop me from enjoying the book.

Overall, I would give this book five out of five stars. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good fantasy thriller. The author has perfectly executed the world-building. Anyone who enjoys that kind of premise would love this book.
