Review of Opportunity Taken – R. W. Frazier
By Jillian C. Hampton

I allowed myself three days to read the 187 pages of Opportunity Taken. It was more time than I would normally need for so few pages. However, I wanted to give each of the primary characters an opportunity to charm me. It was an easy read once I passed the first seven chapters of numerous distracting typos and grammatical errors. I enjoyed the action/adventure and mystery that was ever present in this work of fiction.

The story glided methodically, with the occasional ebb and flow. I wanted more at the end of each chapter. And much to my satisfaction, every new chapter offered me more. I became invested in Jack Johnson’s dual persona. Before I knew it, I found myself drawn in on the journey. Once inside Sanderson Services’ facility, I became more than a spectator, taking on the role as an additional member of the protection squad to the Cali Cartel. The writer obtains a new character from the reader, using the reader as another set of ‘eyes and ears’ to have the Cali Cartel’s back. However, Jorge Silgando does not regard the reader as someone who needs to know everything that he is thinking.

The first rule of a cartel chief is to only trust blood kin. Boyish friendships aside, the Cali Cartel Chief knows who he can trust. And with how much. If Silgando is ever going to keep control of the US market he will have to limit his trust. And recognize the real threat the Medellin Cartel poses. There is a considerable body count. Although detailed, the descriptive account of the killings does not present too much detail for the squeamish reader.

I give this book a 4 out of 5 rating. I would not change a thing in the context of the story. I would, however, suggest reediting page 8 through 42 for typos and grammatical errors. The errors coupled with Brett Williams’ unintelligible speech pattern could influence the readers decision to continue on.
