This novel is a great balance between mystery and romance, with the inclusion of sci-fi excitement. This book details historical events from the Renaissance period through the eyes of the main character, who has a special connection to the past. This special connection is the basis for the mystery that unfolds: a lost Renaissance painting. With the help of a stolen art detective, the two explore how to find the missing painting. Throughout their journey they learn more about themselves, and why they have been chosen by destiny for this adventure. This novel is a great example of historical fiction, where the audience learns about true events, but in an intriguing way that leaves the reader thinking "What if?".

I could not rate the book a full 5/5 stars due to some grammatical errors. I noted 4 instances where the author switched perspectives. The book is written in the 3rd person narrative, however, in these instances, there was a switch into the 1st person. If the author was trying to convey one character's thoughts, the thoughts could have been italicized or denoted in some way. I also found two instances where a comma was needed/not needed. I also could not give a full 5/5 stars when the author chose to write in Italian, and did not translate it into English. For instance, when the main characters visited a place the author would write the name in Italian, and then omit the name in English. Overall this choice did not greatly affect the ability to understand the story, the author translated Italian phrases that were crucial to the storyline.

The novel was captivating, I didn't want to stop reading it, if there is a sequel to it I will gladly read it. It was one of those books that I could read in a day if time allowed, there were no dull moments or unnecessary sections of the book, and it was enjoyable. The author captured my attention and I felt connected to the story. I would rate the book 4/5 stars.
