Nekkid Lake by Noah Bond is a crime drama that meets espionage turned horror. The storyline follows a Forensic Science student completing an internship in a small town. After being assigned a cold case to keep her busy, she discovers more than she bargained for. Every small town has its secrets.
Good editing, grammar quality, and a lack of typing errors make Nekkid Lake an enjoyable read. I didn’t find the storyline as suspenseful as it could have been; it didn’t keep me on the edge of my seat. I would have liked to have seen the town and characters through descriptive other than conversation. The dialogue was spot on for what I would imagine everyday talk is in a small town, at times campy yet entertaining. I wasn’t impressed with how the author chose to end the story, so an ending variation for me would have made the storyline better. With these thoughts in mind, I rated Nekkid Lake 4 stars.
I found the concept of Nekkid Lake an intriguing twist on an age-old idea. Mr. Bond has created the most believable and likable small-town characters. The characters take on life as the storyline progresses. I found myself hoping for the best outcome for these small-town folk. A red herring made me wonder if I was wrong in what I thought I understood to be true in the foreshadowing. The placement of events was just enough to keep me interested.
I found no cursing or steamy romantic scenes throughout the reading of Nekkid Lake. The adult situations I found were references to underage drinking, a hint of a sexual encounter, and moderate violence. I recommend Nekkid Lake for young adult readers or anyone who enjoys a down-to-earth, clean read.
