First, I would like to say that I did not read any of the other books in this series and could still thoroughly enjoy this book. I could tell there were characters that I was supposed to care about from previous books, but it didn't detract from my experience of the storyline.

Waterworks is the story of a series of chemical terrorist attacks on water systems in California that are being perpetrated by the Iranians because they believe that Los Angeles and San Fransisco are "cities full of Jews". The author includes a very foreboding message at the beginning of the book stating that this is a work of fiction but also a very possible threat. I found this message and the overall tone of the book very pro-America and the Iranian characters in the book were either working for America or evil terrorists. There were no in-between, real civilians caught in the crossfire which might have been interesting to see. I know this is a spy novel and everyone is supposed to have ulterior motives, but can't we just have one normal girlie in the gang?

Since this is a series, I'm not so worried about loose ends being tied up, but like I want to know what happened to the movie-star-looking bodyguard who took Lara on a date/not-date/work dinner because we never heard much about him.

The fight and action scenes were something I really appreciated about this book. They were easy to read and picture. Also, the book was pretty much all politics, but it wasn't hard to follow which is a huge prop to the author!

I love how Lara is always saving Uri. I wonder if that is a common theme throughout the series because I definitely felt like it was one throughout this book. I wish we got to see more of their relationship, but I guess that was what books 1-4 were for lol.

Overall, I would rate this book 3/5 stars and would definitely consider reading the other books in the series.
