This novel is an exciting, fast-paced roller coaster. Until the very last moment, you never know who to trust. I was engrossed in the narrative from the first page on and was wondering what would happen next. It's a tale of love, redemption, and deception. It takes place aboard an opulent cruise ship with a cast of lively people and a wide variety of story turns.

I must commend the writers of the characters; they made me want everyone to succeed since they seemed like real individuals. My favourite character in the novel was Georgie; at first, I thought she was cold and self-centered, but as the plot developed and she became closer to Captain Phillips, I learned more about her. She wasn't the usual damsel in distress character that I've been used to seeing in films. I thought she was the most intresting character. Actually, I must praise the portrayal of women in this novel.
From the opening page of the novel, I was left wondering what would happen next. The only person I could trust was Auli’i, the rest of the characters, not so much.

My favourite part of the book is in Cartegena when captain Phillips had to “take care” of the four men. I was enthralled, biting my teeth, asking myself what will happen next. I am a bit of an action junkie so that sequence just reminded me of Jason Bourne in a way. The carriage way action is one of the best writing I have read in a long time.

The only negative point is that the family does not play a major role in the entire story. Captain Phillip is a murderer, but he tries his best to help people he's never met, so I really root for him. He possesses one of humanity's strongest traits: empathy.

I would recommend the book to more young readers, it is fast paced at times and it also give time for dialogue and character development so we care about the man characters. I would give the book a 3, I truly enjoyed reading it.
