The captivating narrative of Three Weeks in Winter by Joseph LeValley revolves around the mysterious demise of a rural deputy sheriff in Chicago. Tony Harrington, a determined reporter, ventures into the Windy City to unravel the truth behind the sheriff's death. Assisted by Tabor, an FBI friend of Tony's, they manage to obtain the deputy sheriff's phone. Upon careful examination, they deduce that, at a bar, the sheriff had overheard a conversation between two individuals, investigated further, and either stumbled upon them or confronted them. This revelation remains confined to Tabor, Tony, and Tony's girlfriend, Darcy.

The pressing question arises: why would two individuals resort to murder simply because the deputy sheriff overheard their conversation? Tony, propelled by a desire for answers, embarks on a nocturnal infiltration into the POVO camp. There, he discovers compelling evidence pointing to an imminent and incomprehensibly brutal attack, possibly orchestrated and funded by one of America's most formidable adversaries.

In the tapestry of this novel, my heart resonates with the character of Tony, the intrepid reporter who boldly ventured where the police faltered, determined to unveil the truths overlooked or deliberately brushed aside. Even in the face of peril that he willingly embraced, along with his steadfast companion Darcy, Tony tenaciously pursued his mission. His dedication extended to extracting the contact details of Mrs Wedder, a crucial witness to the two perpetrators responsible for the deputy sheriff's tragic demise. However, it's not just Tony's valour that captures my affection; it's the poignant subplot that unfolds around the unwavering support bestowed upon him by Darcy. Amidst the shadows of danger and the echoes of threats, Darcy's loyalty stands as a beacon of unwavering commitment. It is this dynamic, the interplay of courage and devotion, that forms the part of the book I cherish the most. The book was exceptionally well-written and error-free.

Within the intricate fabric of this narrative, a discernible sense of dislike takes root, particularly aimed at the Chicago police force. Their propensity for hastiness, choosing swift conclusions over meticulous investigation, casts a shadow over their competence. This rushed and inadequate approach unfolds as a regrettable facet in their execution of duties, prompting a genuine sense of dislike within the storyline. Yet, amidst this narrative blemish, the novel shines in its precise use of grammar and the enthralling narration that artfully unveils the sequence of events. I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy suspenseful narratives with well-developed characters and a strong focus on social commentary.

I gave this book a rating of 4 out of 5 stars due to its compelling narrative, adept use of grammar, well-developed characters like Tony, and the emotional depth in his relationship with Darcy. The exploration of justice system flaws and the consequences of a hasty investigation enhances the story's depth and realism. The nuanced portrayal of the Chicago police force, though causing some frustration, adds a layer of social commentary. Despite this narrative flaw, it contributes to the book's authenticity. Overall, the book offers a thought-provoking exploration of justice issues, earning it a solid 4-star rating.
