Review of Three Bullets
Three Bullets by Charles Alexander is the seventh Annie Steele novel. When Annie Steele receives news that her boyfriend Nick got shot and is in critical condition, she flies from Los Angeles to New York just to discover that Nick died. The fact that Nick's brother died just one day before he got shot becomes suspicious even if cops have reason to think that Nick was killed by a serial killer known as the Undertaker while his brother died in a car accident, at least officially. Grief-stricken, Annie decides to investigate on her own just to discover that there's much more than she could imagine behind Nick's murder, which puts her in grave danger.
Reviewing the first two Annie Steele thrillers was a positive experience for me because Charles Alexander showed he could write complex plots full of action and twists that kept my interest very high until the end of each of them. Developing new ideas to avoid becoming repetitive isn't easy for a writer, so I'm happy to see that he was successful.
Annie Steele was originally introduced as an LAPD motorcycle cop who later became a private investigator. This novel starts with Annie being involved in some events that show that she has contacts in very high places and her extraordinary skills. Even if you haven't read the previous novels in this series, there are explanations about all of that, so this novel's beginning works as a sort of introduction to Annie.
I appreciated how Charles Alexander developed another great plot that turned what started as a murder investigation into something much bigger. It takes a while for Annie to understand what's at stake during an investigation in which many people seem to want to kill her. That creates a lot of tension throughout this novel with Annie feeling strong emotions such as grief, rage, and frustration when her efforts get hindered.
There are more than 10 errors in the book that didn't detract from my enjoyment. However, due to their number, I have to rate it 4 out of 5 stars even if there's nothing I dislike about it. If you like suspenseful thrillers full of action like a rollercoaster, I recommend Three Bullets. If you like long series of books of this type, I recommend reading all Annie Steele novels. Note that they're targeted at grown-ups due to some explicit sex bits and some violent content.

This is indeed an example of a story with the roles of hunter and prey that are quite blurred. Thank you for your comment!Gerry Steen wrote: ↑22 Nov 2023, 23:42 Hi, You did another great book review. Three Bullets sounds like an exciting thriller. Just imagine trying to hunt down a killer while you yourself are being hunted. The twists and tension in the book are what make it a riveting book to read. It is also refreshing to read about a strong character named Annie Steele instead of Arnold Steele! Thanks for the review.

True, some authors have difficulties in doing proper proofreading while others might have someone with a good eye who spots all errors. Thank you for commenting!Rob Carr wrote: ↑24 Nov 2023, 01:16 Sounds like an interesting read! It's a shame the errors kept you from being able to give it a full 5 stars. I find sometimes a book is super well written but has 10+ errors while other times there are books which are so hard to read with confusing sentences but only a couple of things that are objectively wrong you can mark as errors.

Annie is loyal to the people she loves, so she stops at nothing to get answers. Thank you for your appreciation!Risper Ouma Lisa Anyango wrote: ↑25 Nov 2023, 02:53 I really don't know what I would do if I lost one of my siblings. I would be devastated and just like Annie, I would also go looking for answers. Annie is a really good sister and the reviewer has done a good job portraying that. Thank you for the amazing review

This book has quite an introduction! The mystery of this particular book is also palpable in your review! The serial-killer element, for some reason, never gets old for meNetMassimo wrote: ↑14 Nov 2023, 09:13 [Following is a volunteer review of "Three Bullets" by Charles Alexander.]

Yes, when I started this book, I had a bit of fear that the author had run out of ideas but the novel turned out to have another suspenseful plot. It sounds like this could be read standalone, which is an additional bonus. The aspect of your review I appreciate the most is your observation that the author has a way of keeping the action coming while also keeping it fresh, even after seven books! I enjoyed reading your thoughts on this book, as always! Until next time...

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this book. Your review is great and I enjoyed reading it.
