The Date Farm by Jack Winnick is a fast-paced romp through Los Angeles, Washington D.C., rural Ohio, New York City, and Iran. I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars for the sense of adventure that captured my imagination and simultaneously made me think about the continued threats of terrorism to our nation. The pace of this book is very brisk, and I found myself anxiously anticipating what might happen next to our heroes, Lara and Uri. Fans of this author will know Lara and Uri will find themselves in a many dangerous predicaments, and we are always hoping there is a way for them to save themselves. This book introduces the reader to a variety of duplicitous double agents, which adds an additional level of suspense and intrigue. As the plot progresses, Lara and Uri are in many different locations, facing a multitude of threats. At the conclusion, they will need to make some very difficult choices. Espionage is a central theme in this book, and the latest in innovative spyware and gadgetry plays an important role in the book. This book is thought provoking and makes the reader think about who our enemies are. Where are we vulnerable? Are we too trusting as a nation? What are we willing to do to secure our safety as a nation? While the events are not all real, they are credible, the reader will recognize that events like this can in fact happen. We all know the threats to our national security are well verified and documented, and the enemy is relentless. Discerning internal threats and those who may pose a risk to us, is a real issue facing our nation. Be sure to read the Author's Notes at the conclusion for some interesting and disturbing information on one of the video games mentioned. This book is a very engaging and entertaining read and I heartily recommend it to anyone interested in espionage, terrorism, secret agencies, or potential threats to our national security. I can't think of a way to improve this book. I read the Kindle version, and the editing was superb with only a single typo identified. This book is part of a series, but reading them in order is not required, each can stand on it's own. I will however go back and read the ones I missed, the author is just that good!
