In A Week’s Worth by Thyme Lewis, Mac is a problem solver. His work for FEMA allows him to help the helpless and rescue those in need. His time with the Navy was probably spent in very much the same way, although Mac is reluctant to talk about it.

So, when his mother faces a health crisis brought on by her poor lifestyle choices, Mac once again runs to the rescue. He picks up his mom and heads to his seaside condo for a week of exercise and clean eating. Little does either of them know the drama that is in store.

A Week’s Worth is a story about many things. It delves into the turmoil of family relationships and working through past trauma. It examines the struggles brought on by a worldwide pandemic and local shutdown, and it even includes a few mysteries along the way to tie it all together.

I enjoyed this book and found myself rooting for Mac and his mom, Sadie, along the way. Both were complicated characters with rich backstories; some of which the reader is privy to, much of which we are not. There was a full cast of supporting characters that rounded out the neighborhood very well and drove the story in several unexpected directions.

All in all, I would recommend this book to readers across a variety of genres. Mystery and suspense fans will enjoy it as well as those who prefer crime or family dramas. There is plenty of humor to keep a smile on the reader’s face, even eliciting a chuckle once in a while. There were a few sentences that were a bit on the “clunky” side, requiring me to go back and re-read portions to make it make sense, but overall, it was a very easy read.

I would rate A Week’s Worth a 4 out of 5 and include that it is refreshingly low on “foul” language, making it appropriate for a variety of ages and preferences.
