Shawe Ruckus' enigmatic tale, All Body Bags and No Knickers, centres on newlyweds Catherine Roxborough and Chance Yang, embarking on their honeymoon in China after a lavish London wedding. This romantic journey takes a sinister twist as they stumble upon a series of unexplained murders linked to Chance's shadowy history. What appears to be isolated homicides at first soon reveals an eerie connection to the Yang family. Floral artist and amateur writer Catherine, along with consultant and bar owner Chance, explore China's wonders.

As they traverse the country, they encounter a mix of familiar faces from Chance's past and new acquaintances. The unexpected murder of three individuals at a deserted coastal structure turns out to be people they met during their vacation, raising suspicions of the Yang family's involvement. Determined to unearth the truth, the newlyweds launch their investigation into this perplexing decade-old mystery, which may implicate one of their kin. This suspenseful narrative unfolds with each twist, keeping readers on edge as secrets unravel in a foreign land. I would recommend this book to readers who have an interest in cultural exploration and are open to a mix of mystery and education within the narrative.

This gripping book begins with a mysterious nurse handing an envelope to a man, setting the stage for a compelling journey. It skillfully blends past and present through flashbacks, revealing intriguing connections. The author's storytelling keeps readers guessing with each twist. The main characters, from different worlds, share a romantic tale. The novel explores their friendships and the origins of a traditional Chinese family. It unfolds amidst China's scenic beauty, with Catherine's cultural fascination and humour adding depth. This captivating work offers mystery, romance, and cultural exploration in a mesmerizing package. The book was exceptionally well-edited and error-free.

The aspect of the book I disliked was the author's handling of the mystery. It failed to evoke a sense of suspense and intrigue, instead feeling more like an educational narrative. The story frequently delved into conversations that provided cultural and linguistic insights, with a particular emphasis on Chinese and Korean cultures and languages. The narrative's initial confusion stemmed from unclear flashbacks, and my frustration grew as the real excitement only materialized around the book's midpoint. Additionally, I found several sections of the book to be irrelevant, such as the repetitive descriptions of landscapes and environments, which I believed detracted from the overall experience.

I gave this book a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. The book is strong in its educational aspects, offering a deep dive into various countries and languages, especially highlighting Chinese and Korean cultures. This provides valuable insights and enriches the reading experience. The mystery element, while not executed flawlessly, still adds an intriguing layer to the narrative, keeping readers engaged and curious about the unfolding events. The gradual build-up of suspense and excitement, particularly in the second half of the book, manages to captivate the audience effectively. While some sections could be perceived as slightly repetitive or tangential, they don't significantly detract from the overall enjoyment and understanding of the story. The book's merits in education, maintaining interest through the mystery, and its compelling second half contribute to the positive rating.
