When Kelly stumbles into the wrong place at the wrong time, her honeymoon with her new husband Tom turns from carefree and romantic to something much more dangerous. Assembling a team of Americans in Honduras, the newlyweds uncover a plot to take down North America with an EMP, an electromagnetic pulse that could wipe out the power and information grids across the continent.
E M P Honeymoon: Kelly & Tom by Dorothy May Mercer is a whirlwind adventure of a story. The book opens with action from the very first page and continues to deliver thrills and suspense throughout. The story bounces from the team in Honduras searching for clues to the U.S. Government trying to keep up to Dear Leader and his team on the Homeland Peninsula building and testing the components for the device intended to cripple the United States. Each part of the story comes with its own action as well as a variety of characters to connect the story together.
This book is a quick, easy read that keeps the plot moving the entire time. Whenever there is a scientific element to a story, it is easy to overwhelm the reader with technical jargon or overly detailed specifications. Mercer used neither. The focus was on the story and moving the action forward rather than bogging the whole works down with the science of it all.
I enjoyed the pace and the premise of the book. The dialogue among the American team members gave them vivid, distinct personalities, something that could have been easily lost in all of the action. My only wish for this story was that it had been a bit longer. While I appreciated the fast pace of the story, there were times when it felt more like a run-away train that the reader had to cling to in order to avoid being left behind.
Overall, I would rate this book a 4 out of 5, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a fast-paced adventure
