The novel, "Ophelia", by Norman Bacal, is a mind blowing, rollercoaster read. The author takes the unsuspecting reader into a world of espionage, suspense, murder, psychological and emotional trauma. The novel relates the attempts of Talem Neilson to avenge his father, Gerhard's murder. Not everyone is convinced that it was a conspiracy. Distraught Tal, the heir to his father's Drug Empire, goes from a high to a low randomly; as he traverses the emotions, mental anguish and hopelessness as the plot thickens. He experiences constant flashbacks concerning his father. While constantly facing imminent threats and attempts to annihilate him, he turns to drug addiction. He falls into a state of extreme depression, and is convinced to rehabilitate. The only person who believes in him is Ophelia.
It's a complicated fast moving plot, with complex characters, complex time frames, business deals and varying destinations that skillfully creates the desired suspense that escalates as the thriller progresses. A realistic portrayal of modern day syndicates.
If you enjoy engulfing your senses in a sanguineous, suspenseful, thriller, then this novel would entertain you, Not recommended for the faint hearted. Adult audience. Rating 5/5.
