An exhilarating Spy-fiction in the likes of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, but with a more complicated storyline as the antagonist takes you to a world where the threat of nuclear war is very real. Set in the aftermath of a Nuclear attack on the capital of United states, Jeff Shear’s Final Report takes us through a thrilling ride into the world of secret agents and espionage. Our hero, Jackson Guild is sent undercover and must investigate and gather intelligence incriminating an otherwise well protected company which is under the scanner of the secret agencies. As he goes to work, he finds the conspiracy runs deeper as he discovers serious threats & weapons that could change the world equilibrium & conventional war as we know it. Set to find out the truth, he realises friends are not friends and everything is not at all as it seems. If he is to find the truth he must think ahead of everyone and forget that he knows the people around him.

The book is very well written with a good story line, twists and turns which keeps the reader on edge throughout the story. The story continues unpredictably and the reader is left gasping at the turn of events and betrayals as Jackson continues his investigation. The characters are vividly described, yet full of mystery which lets the reader to get to know them while still wanting to know more. Adequate time has been given to character development which makes the reading experience very fresh and keeps the reader involved in the book. The writer sets the book to end in a climax in a way that could lead to further development in the story of our antagonist Jackson Guild which keeps the reader wanting for more in the future .

One aspect of the book I don’t like is that the story goes on and on without any substantial development in the plot. The only other issues with the book is that at times it feels like a little too much of plot development and too little action in the story. Although the writer builds up the story for some action, yet he fails to give the reader any action as one expects from books of this genre.

Overall the book is a good read and well written. I would rate the book 3 out of 4 for its good storyline, character depth and unpredictable twists and turns which make the book fun to read and does not lets the reader loose interest in the story. One point I reduced in the rating because there is not much action in the book which would have made the book an adrenaline filled reading experience.

I would recommend the book to any adult reader who is into Spy-fiction and the world of espionage with patience, as the book contains some profanity and takes time to unfold.
