The Date Farm by Jack Winnick begins with a brutal terrorist attack on a Beverly Hills Mall. Hundreds of people were killed or injured. Married government agents, Lara and Uri, are called in by Mary Robley, the head of the FBI office, to help investigate and identify the perpetrators. In the meantime, Iranian President Fijazi and his cohorts are planning another attack. Shekih Abidin, who has escaped Lara and Uri's capture previously, will be in charge. Training at the Iranian secret base near Esfahan, close to Tehran, is in progress.

It is then discovered that the government's highest level of communications has been disrupted in New York City. All networks including speech, data, and graphics have been interrupted. Lara, Uri, and the FBI team are puzzled, and worry what will happen next. Soon the terrorists, using a mixture of tear gas and anesthetics, take over the Federal Reserve Building, which is said to house much of the nation's gold. It is rumored that the gold has been moved to the Chase Manhattan Bank across the street. However, it is discovered that rhenium, one of the rarest metals on earth, is also kept there. Rhenium is a crucial element in the construction of high-performance turbine blades. Turbines power the jet fighter that has destroyed forces of Islam, the " F-35". It is imperative in the speed and force of that aircraft.

I really liked this book. There were many twists and turns. It was full of danger and suspense. One of my favorite parts was when Lara and Uri discovered that one of their close associates was actually an Iranian spy. One could tell the book was well researched and believable. The characters were realistic. I liked that the love and trust between Lara and Uri was mentioned throughout the story. Another part of the book I liked was when Lara and Uri went undercover as workers at the Date Farm. This was an actual farm that harvested dates. Thus, the name of the book.

The only thing I didn't like was that there were a lot of minor characters that weren't mentioned very frequently. It was difficult to keep up with them. Since this was the fourth book out of a series of 4, the characters were probably mentioned in previous books. While the book stands on its own, it might be helpful to read the whole series. I still chose to give the book 5 out of 5 stars.

I would highly recommend the book. It had adventure, suspense, and edge of your seat situations. While it is a work of fiction, it is not out of the realm of possibility that similar attacks have happened or could happen. A few readers could find the realistic graphic violence distasteful. This book was professionally edited.
