Darren Burch, a retired police sergeant, shares his captivating life story in "Twisted But True." This book chronicles Burch's journey, beginning with a life-changing accident he witnessed at seventeen, which sparked his desire to join the army and help others.

Burch takes readers on a compelling journey through his personal life and experiences as a police officer, providing a vivid account in chronological order. The book delves into his time in the army, his early days as a rookie officer filled with mistakes and growth, his remarkable achievements within the police force, his promotion to sergeant, and ultimately, his well-deserved retirement. In the final chapter and epilogue, Burch reveals a more intimate side, giving readers a glimpse of his character and unwavering dedication to his family and career.

The stories in this collection are filled with dark humor and graphic details that captivate and unsettle readers, offering a raw look into the realities of crime. While I thoroughly enjoyed this collection, it is important to note that the descriptive nature may not be suitable for those who are easily frightened or disturbed.

However, for readers who appreciate vivid crime tales, the abundance of details will undoubtedly keep them engrossed until the very end. Personally, I cannot find any dislike about this book; everything within it resonated positively with me.

I truly admire Burch's ability to infuse humor into his stories while maintaining a sense of compassion and regret. For instance, he humorously portrays some bank robberies in a skillfully balancing lighthearted moments with the seriousness of these situations.

Throughout my vigilant reading, I have not come across a single error. Professional editors have done an exceptional job, ensuring the book is polished to perfection. I wholeheartedly rate this book five out of five stars because Darren utilizes an intense and gripping narrative to vividly depict the law enforcement experience.

The book is intended for adult readers comfortable with profanity and dark humor. Regrettably, this makes it unsuitable for children. I highly recommend this book to those interested in pursuing a career as a police officer, as it offers invaluable insights into the realities one can expect in such a role.
