Blanket Immunity is a book about a young attractive woman, Joanna Channing, who is a lawyer and is trying to run a private practice after failure to become a Judge in the state of California. The story starts with her first day as a private council officer and when she unexpectedly stumbles upon two different cases, but then the story unravels as she explores and juggles her personal issues, family concerns and the cases. The basic plot is about how all of these are intertwined as the story progresses with so many twists and turns.

The author did a commendable job of building up the plot. As each twist is revealed, the story gets tighter and tighter with the reader getting impatient to know the end and rest assured you will read and read without stopping at anything to complete the story. The characters have a well developed personality and are well written. The romance angle for me personally felt rushed. I felt the lead was too trusting and didn’t consider any potential dangers as she is involved with various characters in the story. My favorite character has to be Mr. Omar, who, I feel, has so much more potential and can just be made into a separate novel based on his life alone. Though this is a legal thriller, I was expecting little more court room drama and high-level intrigue and intelligence displayed by Miss. Jo Channing. The lack thereof was disappointing, especially when, these days, we have so many such legal thrillers on the OTT platform. The novel definitely falls short in that area. The story itself is about a single case disguised cleverly as two different ones at the beginning, but I was expecting little more from it. However, since it becomes a single case eventually, more mystery and drama would have elevated the story.

In conclusion, this book is a short but definitely well done mystery with a surprising ending. Anyone who loves mysteries will enjoy this book immensely. I would personally rate it a 4 out of 5 for such a good read. I have deducted one point for the lack of thrill based on multiple dimensions in the story. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good story on a lazy day.
