I enjoyed this book. The author did a great deal of research and incorporates a lot of information in a way that is interesting and informative. The storyline is easy to follow. There is a lot of geographical information in the book that I found very interesting, and a lot of cultural references that I also found interesting.

The story follows a husband and wife team who go deep undercover in Tehran. They have to work separately and with no contact with each other, which creates challenges for both. Each is required to intercept information regarding a terrorist attack on the water reservoirs in Southern California. The terrorists are trying to poison the water supply, which will create mass genocide throughout the entire valley of Los Angeles. With millions of lives at stake, the spies are desperately trying to stop the attacks. The book is interesting  and well written and even has a few surprise twists.

My biggest complaint would be that I wasn’t drawn into the story as much as I would have liked. Although the characters are believable and likeable, I didn’t feel very invested in them. The husband and wife are obviously in love, but there is very little depth shown in their relationship. I would have enjoyed a little deeper dive into their relationship and a little more personal insight into their characters. Although I enjoyed the book, I didn’t lose myself in the story, or relate strongly to the characters, which for me, is the difference between a good book and an excellent book. There is a little violence, but not too graphic. Not much romance, even though the story follows a married couple.

I took me a while to finish the book because I wasn’t drawn in to where I couldn’t put it down. I would recommend this book if you want to read something that is interesting and a little exciting without feeling too invested in the characters.

I give this book
3 out of 5 stars.
