Unyielding Destiny by Spiros Gratsias is a gripping historical fiction novel that unfolds in America, starting in the 1930s and spanning through the 1970s. The story centers around Frank Morris, a New Yorker with Irish roots born to a regular blue-collar family. Orphaned after his parents' deaths, Frank is adopted by Joseph Cabineri, the head of a New York-based mafia. As he grows older, Frank becomes entangled in the world of organized crime before enlisting in the army to fight in the Korean War. During his military service, Frank's life is saved by Lieutenant Roy Easten, a promising officer who sacrifices his own life in the process.

Years later, Frank finds himself imprisoned at Alcatraz on robbery charges. In an unexpected twist of fate, he encounters Roy's young son, Scott, during a prison visit. Frank's daring escape from Alcatraz marks the beginning of a new chapter in his life. Over time, Scott becomes an assistant district attorney, and through unforeseen circumstances, their paths intersect once again.

The strengths of Unyielding Destiny lie in its captivating and action-packed plot, interwoven with significant historical events such as the assassination of John F. Kennedy and Neil Armstrong's moon landing, adding an authentic touch to the narrative. Frank's character is deeply explored, showcasing his inner struggle to balance doing what is right while upholding his sense of honor.

On the downside, the novel occasionally becomes excessively descriptive, which can make it somewhat tedious to read. Additionally, the time-jumping in the story may be a bit jarring for some readers.

Nonetheless, the book boasts impeccable editing and thorough research. It is worth noting that the language used is explicit, and there are a few gory scenes, making it suitable for mature audiences only.

Overall, I rate Unyielding Destiny 5 out of 5 for its enthralling storytelling and well-developed characters. I eagerly anticipate reading more works from this talented author in the future.
