Violation of Faith is a romantic thriller that just kept getting better! Lynea and Corinne have escaped from a religious cult and a place called the Compound. The leader of the group, the Reverend, decided to make Lynea, named Faith by the Reverend, as his wife when she was 12. Four years later, when the Reverend begins to attack Corinne, Lynea launches their escape. For 3 years they are on the run, moving from town to town and from one shelter to another.

When Corinne turns 18 they find themselves in Bethelsville, PA where Corinne has been granted a full scholarship to the local college. The girls have settled into a duplex where their neighbors, the Winbournes, are an elderly couple who come to love the girls as their own immediately. When Mr. Winbourne arranges a job for Lynea at the college’s library she is thrilled at the chance. Lynea soon finds herself assigned as an intern to Brennan Gage, who needs help finishing his doctoral thesis. From the moment they meet their mutual interest is more than intellectual.

Lynea and Corinne live in fear that the Reverend will find them again but they are becoming comfortable in Bethelsville. Brennan is fascinated by Lynea but she refuses to reveal her secrets. Then comes the day when those secrets put everyone in danger.

This story is a romance but the thrills occupy most of the narrative. This is a good thing because the story is quite compelling. The story begins with Lynea and Corinne’s escape and I immediately liked these two girls who were desperate to create a new life for themselves. The Winbourne’s are a loving and caring couple, and just what the girls need to help them get established. Brennan does not get off to a good start with Lynea but she gradually warms up to him and so did I as the reader. As in most romances, there are misunderstandings that must be resolved, and this one also has great tragedy to be worked through. I enjoyed all the characters in the story because each had a unique personality and contributed in their own way to the overall plot. The Reverend and his companion were the only thing I didn’t like about the book because they are pure evil, but their evilness made the story work, so in that sense I did like them.

I’m giving this book 4 out of 4 stars because I really enjoyed it. The tie in with a religious cult was an interesting twist and added a nice complexity to what might otherwise have been just another run-of-the-mill romance. I think the author showed a lot of creativity with the theme and the story was well-developed. I think this book would be appealing to romance and mystery/thriller lovers alike.

Sounds like an interesting book. I'm not much of a romance fan but I'm so into mystery and this seems like one enjoyable read. Nice job on the review. Congratulations to Jeannie Hall on such an obviously well written book.
