4 out of 5 ~ very good, above average

Unique, Quirky and Surprising

At first, I had no interest in this book as many books I have read which are supposed to be funny or, at least humorous, I have found the author to be "trying too hard" and it comes off that way. Michael F. Spratt, the author of this book, The Raven Conspiracy, I found to have done a delightful job of it. Hard to believe he is a new author. (Believe me, I looked to see if there was another of his books available.)

As many other reviewers have said, the characters are different and out-of-the-ordinary and, I found myself wanting to know more about them. Spratt did an excellent job describing people and places within the community. One in particular which struck me is when Gidget began setting up shop. I could see her actions and smell the beach, sun tan oil and visualize her cart.

This was, for me, one of the few books I could not wait to get back to and had a hard time putting down.

So, why the lower rating? Errors. Numerous errors including space between paragraphs, bold comments when not needed, and definitely, punctuation.

One of my personal quirks is when someone uses the word "that" instead of who when speaking about a person. For instance... "What do you call it when you have a person of interest that..."? In my view it should read "... person of interest who...". But then, people do, as often as not, say "that" instead of "who" and maybe it was the author's intention as I saw Betty Sato in a full paragraph using "who" correctly (in my opinion).

If you are looking for an easy, fun read, I highly recommend The Raven Conspiracy
