Just Die review

This book ‘Just Die’ by E. Alan Fleischauer has all the makings of a good storyline but really lacks the depth and emotion that is needed for books with harsh topics such as these.
The initial story of acquiring superpowers after a stroke, and so having the ability to kill people with a simple catchphrase and point of a finger is what interested me to start reading this book.
Though my interest soon started to decline when the main character, Jake Silver and the rest of his friends showed no signs of any personal development or improvement and their dialogue lines were short and repetitive. You can expect a whole lot of “Darn, Gosh darn it, holy smokes, holy cow!” Ect These remarks of conservative exclaim continue until the drug abuse themes are introduced and then the language used changes to more explicit curse words.
It would be beneficial to add content warnings at the start of the book so the reader can anticipate and proceed accordingly.
Often and Quite nonchalantly the author discusses strong topics such as murder, alcohol and drug abuse, childhood sexual abuse and rape. These topics and plot twists were not resolved in depth and were practically just glazed over and moved onto the next segment almost as though it were a joke.

Too many unnecessary characters and the flow of the book was constantly interrupted by the point of view changes.
This book is extremely hard to read and keep track of events. A few times the chain of events were out of order as well so there are different versions of one event.

I do not recommend this book to anyone.

Overall, I rate the book 1 out of 5.
It genuinely read as though it were the efforts of a terrible AI and that they had only tweaked a few sentences themselves to avoid suspicion.
The author needs to work on giving their story some depth beyond dialogue and needs to work on understanding emotions and bringing empathy to their characters.
